The 12 Days of Ellee The First Day Turquoise Dress

The 12 Days of Ellee

Meet my youngest daughter, Ellee.  She is 13 years old and she is definitely my girlie girl of the bunch!  She goes with me to find my fashion treasures each week and she usually ends up finding more than I do!  So, you will find that a lot of my refashions will be on her.  I'm thankful that God gave me a daughter that enjoys some of the same things as I do.  I hope this never changes:)  In honor of the Holiday season, I have decided to dedicate the next 12 days of Christmas to refashions of Ellee's clothes.  So, enjoy the next few weeks of Holiday refashion joy!

On The First Day of Ellee my mother sewed for me
One turquoise dress fitted to me.

This particular dress, there was not a whole lot to do on it.  As you can tell from the before picture (sorry about the lighting), it was a little big on the sides.  I don't have many in between pictures on this one because I was so excited to get it done that I forgot to take "during" pictures.  But, essentially, I just had Ellee wear the dress inside out.  I pinned the extra fabric on each side to where it would be snug on her.  She really hates when the armpits "hang out", so I tightened that area so she would feel comfortable in it.  Also, you can't really tell from the pictures, but the shoulders were really long in the straps.  They came to a v in the back, so I just folded them enough to fit snuggly on Ellee's shoulders.  I had her carefully remove the dress and sewed a straight seam that tapered out once we got past the fitted waist area.  The problem I came across, was when everything was sewn, Ellee had a hard time actually getting the dress on.  So, I took out the seams a little.  It wasn't as tight as she would have liked it (thus, the sad face), but it was still nicely fitted and looks great.  I ironed the dress (and that within itself was enough to make this dress shine).  This particular dress also had a drawstring waist on it.  I sewed right over the top of that.  My thought was, she could still cinch it in enough to tighten it  and give a "baggy" feel, but because we fitted it to her, she no longer really needed to "tighten" the waist.  Now she has a beautiful dress to wear to church.  So sad that's it's suppose to get cold this weekend:(
